Subject	Clear coat over already painted surface?....

Message	I posted a question below, but it's buried in a post. Can I have a light coat of clear sprayed on over my original paint to take care of the scratch like appearance (of the clear coat going away). In the post below it was referred to as "tiger striping". One body shop said it could only be applied after a fresh coat of color is applied underneath. The paint on my car is perfect except for a few places where that "tiger striping" exists". Any informed opinions (especially from an experienced painter) are welcomed. Thanks in advance, Mark
